Teotihuacán means
in Natuatl's (the original language): the city where people
become god. Teotihuacán has
been built the second century before
Christ. In the flowering-time (fifth
century) 200.000 people lived in this city! It was in that time one of the
largest cities in the world and THE economic,
religious, cultural and military centre of middle America. Thus for
example they even maintained trade relations with
the Maya's. Teotihuacán covers
21 square kilometers and exists of palaces,
court squares, temples, etc. In 700 A.D.the city has been devastated by
an invasion of the Toltecs.
Pirámide de la

On the pyramid of the
moon, with a view on the Avenida de los Muertos, the dead road, 4 kilometers
long.
In the photograph
upper left you see the pyramid of the sun.
Pirámide del Sol.
The 2ndlargest pyramid in the world. 65
meters high. Under the building lies a labyrinth of tunnels and caves, which
the Aztecs consider as the birthplace of the world. The pyramid counts 244
steps.
On the pyramid of the sun,
with view on the pyramid of the moon.
The tops of the pyramids are on the same high. This is because the pyramid
of the moon lies on a on a rising.
And of course take a pose
in front of the pyramid of the Sun.
Templo de
Quetzalcóatl.
This temple has been decorated abundantly with relief
of the snake god and of rain god Tlaloc. Unfortunately we have seen little
of it. First of all they are working hard on the restoration of the pyramid
through which the pyramid loses a little bit in beauty and secondly it was
raining considerably through which the visit was very short.
Until now it
concerns some holidays: Surinam, Egypt, Peru,
Bolivia and Mexico. Further on a brief photo
report of the sun eclipse of 1999 in
north-France nearby the little village Spincourt.
