We leave Mitla and drive to Tehuantepec, situated in the isthmus (istmo)
of Tehuantepec.
Underway we stop in:
and have lunch in
EL TíO CHíCO
Nadia and Gerdien.
Tehuantepec Arrival at 05.00 PM. It is here sweltering hot and
suffocating. We take a little walk in the little village and visit the
covered market. There runs also a rail-line through the city. However it has
never been used. The railway was build once to connect the GREAT OCEAN with
the GULF OF MEXICO, but it has never been used. It became PANAMA for this
purpose.
The inside market. See the hanging flesh... And that at
temperature of far above 30 oC or 86 Fahrenheit!!!
The little town Tehuantepec is actually used just for passing through. The
hotel is simple.
Carry men carry our trunks. There is no elevator, therefore they sweat like
crazy. They carry, however, abdominal belts. The hotel has a beautiful
swimming pool with built in bar, therefore we enjoy a nice Corona...
The next morning we leave Tehuantepec and drive to
Cañon el Sumidero. But...... first we eat
something on the way to it.
The point where Mexico is on its narrowest. In the far distance we see
the ocean and on the forefront a garbage-belt with vultures.
Of all gas stations which we have seen is 95% PEMEX.
Piddle and buying some sweets and refreshments...
Until now it
concerns some holidays: Surinam, Egypt, Peru,
Bolivia and Mexico. Further on a brief photo
report of the sun eclipse of 1999 in
north-France nearby the little village Spincourt.
