The first we
noticed were the many beetles that were driving around. Until last year (2003)
the Mexicans still manufactured those beetles.

Palacio de Bellas
Artes, the palace of clean arts.
This palace has been build from 1900 up to 1934, a long period because
of the very high costs.
The building is of marble and weighs so much, that at its realization it
already sunk 4.5 meters into the ground. In the palace there is also a
museum.
Benito Juárez (1806-1872).
Brought the reform laws.
The last 5 years president.
Basilica of Guadalupe or the Basílica the Nuestra Señora the Guadalupe,
the saint virgin and patroness of Mexico. The basilica is built between
1974 and 1976. The old 18-century basilica became too small to receive
the enormous man mass, for this reason a new one was built. It has
been designed by the famous architect Pedro Ramírez Vásquez. The old
basilica now serves as a museum and there are some beautiful colonial
paintings.
Each Mexican school child knows the tale of Juan Diego,
the Indian farmer, to whom on the hillock Tepeyac up to 3 times the
virgin Maria appeared, in 1531. After the bishop of Zumárraga had asked
him for proof of the wonder, Maria scattered roses over Juan Diego. Its
precious load wrapped in a coat, he returned to the bishop but
discovered that the roses disappeared and had been replaced by an image
of the saint virgin.
We enter the basilica. An enormous large, oval shaped
building with everywhere open entrances. In the church there can be a
maximum of 10000 persons, and the whole day there are approximately 5000
persons.
Torre Latinoamericana from 1957.
The first skyscraper in Mexico. You don't see him because we are
standing on it!! On the 41 floor there is a restaurant and on the
42 floor a panoramic view of the whole city. The magnificent view costs
40 pesos. See here the result! It was worth while.
El Museo Nacional de
Antropología. El Museo Nacional de
Antropología has been built in 1964 by the famous architect Pedro Ramírez Vázquez. In 12 enormous rooms around the inner court
there is the most beautiful archaeological collection of Mexico,
dedicated to old domestic civilizations among which the Aztecs (Mexica),
Toltec's, Maya's.
